Institutional Review Board Members
- IRB Chairs and Members are appointed by the State Surgeon General. Members include individuals from DOH and individuals from the community. Since DOH conducts research around the State of Florida, members are drawn from around the state, to provide knowledge of the local research context. Members have varying backgrounds and expertise to provide complete and thorough review of research activities commonly conducted by the DOH or involving DOH resources or clients.
- Individuals who are interested in knowing more about volunteering as an IRB member may contact program Staff.
- IRB Chairpersons are respected, active members of the Department who are well-informed in regulations relevant to the use of human subjects in research. Chairs include individuals from county health departments and central office programs. Chairpersons are capable of managing the IRB and matters brought before it with fairness and impartiality.
- The IRB's deliberations are fair and impartial. A member who is concerned about a circumstance where the independence, impartiality, integrity and fairness of the DOH IRB’s review may be questioned, or if a member perceives undue influence for any reason, the member should report this. Reports may be made verbally or in writing to an IRB Chair, program Staff, Deputy Secretary, Chief of Staff, or directly to the State Surgeon General. Information provided is confidential.
